If you’ve ever climbed Ben Nevis or Snowdon, then their summits are around the height that you’ll find the Bonarda grapes that go into this wine. However, these vines are in the Uco Valley in Argentina and the combined altitude, latitude create a wine that is both ripe and fresh, bold and soft.
Originating from southeast France, Bonarda is also planted in California (where it is known as Charbono) and in Jura, where it is known as Corbeau. So it’s travelled a fair bit, but it seems it’s found a home from home in the foothills of the Andes.
The Bonarda is an intense red colour with violet hues and has fresh aromas of raspberries and strawberries. In the mouth, the tannins are ripe and sweet and has an elegant and soft finish.
