Amalaya’s vineyards are in the Calchaquí Valley which is the highest wine region in the world and one of the most remote. After fermentation about a quarter of the wine was aged in French oak for 10 months prior to blending and bottling. There’s a little Tannat and Petit Verdot among the Malbec here and together gives rich aromas of dark fruits, herbs, sweet spice and subtle oak. It’s wonderfully smooth on the palate with ripe, sweet blackcurrant fruit, oak spice, liquorice, mint and cedar notes while the tannins are velvety and rounded and the finish long and lingering.
